I'm not sure if this is a real advance or not. It seems like an implementation mechanism for a process that we still don't understand. Does it do something different than other implementation mechanisms? Will it scale better? How will it help us understand what is really going on between our ears? Larry M.

This sounds really promising work for the future of neural based computing systems, I am eager to check it at IEDM.
