MANHASSET, NY -- When in Las Vegas all bets are on, even on the most successful consumer electronics company to come out with its latest electronics technology.
And so, top betting company Paddy Power is taking bets on what will be the subject of Apple’s New York announcement in a week’s time.
With the top technology company only revealing that the event will be surrounding an ‘education announcement’ techies the world around have been speculating as to what Apple has in store for them.
The betting house contends that given the theme of the event it’s unsurprising that the clear favorite is for the announcement to be on ‘Electronic/Digital textbooks’ at 1/6 followed by the ‘iPad Lite’ at 6/1 and the ‘iPad 3’ at 9/1.
Further down the list its 14/1 that Apple’s CEO Tim Cook will be waxing lyrical about the return of the ‘iMac desktop’ while an announcement on the ‘iPhone 5’ and an ‘Apple Robot Teacher’ prop up the market at 20/1 and 40/1 respectively.
No one is betting on whether Cook will be collecting on the largest payout from his company in five years. Apple announced this week that Cook got a salary of $900,000 and a grant of Apple stock worth $376 million but only gets control of the first half if he remains as CEO for five years and of the second half if he remains CEO for 10 years.
According to some observers he is in a win-win situation.
Paddy Power a spokesperson for Paddy Power said “Like all tech junkies I’m awaiting the latest Apple announcement with bated breath, it looks very likely that they’re on the verge of launching electronic textbooks but I don’t think it’s beyond those geniuses at Apple to build a robot teacher!”
