One of the issues that I've seen relates to the construction of the HDMI cable. Perhaps I just haven't been looking in the right places, but all of the HDMI cables that I've come across are very stiff and appear to put a lot of stress on the HDMI jack unless lined up just right. I can easily envision a surface mount HDMI jack popping off the PCB. I'd be interested in hearing of any such failures in the field. Am I just being paranoid? Or is it an issue just waiting to show up when HDMI use on portable devices is wide-spread enough.

Other than cost issues, I often wonder why PC monitors still use DVI ( read no audio ) when the audio is often a significant part of the PC experience, and speakers via a separate audio cable are often built-in to the monitor.
