The evolution of TV runs into a rapid pace in the last few years, starting from 3D TV. Smart TV seems to be dominating the market in ling term. Smart TV is a common term. It doesn't mean the TV is able to figure out what program we like the watch. Nor would it be able to memorize what you have watched at anytime of day and automatically tune to the channel for you next week. It simply means CONNECTED TV, at least to me. Smart TV is product due to the evolution of video content delivery. IMO, as cable TV had proven delivering pay-per-view content ahead to a cached STB worked well 8-10 years ago. The path to make a smart TV is a logical path. Most consumers look for Smart TV for extra content from NetFlix, Hulu or similar services. I am not sure how many people are using it to browse Internet or even compose email. Does the current Smart TV satisfy customers demand? It may be for now. I am sure we are all looking for better, some features that can bring a different experience to us. I am pretty sure there are startups building all sorts of interactive content that allow viewers to use their tablet to do interaction with the content.

You are certainly a late adopter and Apple already has Apple TV, although in order for it to be useful, you have to jailbreak it. You are much better served by buying pretty much any blue ray player with wifi (under $100) which can stream just about anything, including hulu, netflix, youtube, etc.. that turns any dumb tv into a "smart" one...

It does seem that I am a late adopter. My TV does not have Internet connectivity yet. I have been waiting for Apple to make one. I better go get one since that is not in the "hurry book" of Tim Cook
