That is too harsh @selinz, there is a several billion dollar industry based on GMR (giant magnetoresistance effect)...I am pretty certain you have a GMR based disk drive somewhere in your home...GMR has triggered the rise of a new field of electronics called spintronics which has been used extensively in the read heads of modern hard drives and magnetic sensors....what we are discussing here is whether you can make a logic circuit based on spintronics not whether spintronics is useful (it clearly is)...Kris

I'm not seeing anything that makes it more compelling than a laboratory curiosity.

Besides low temperature, isn't magnetic shielding also necessary?

All true @pixies but some big corporations are putting some serious money on this...if this pans out it would be huge...room temperature spintronics is clearly a possibility...Kris

Spintronics so far has been generating more and more exciting science, not actual devices. Most phenomena can only be observed at extremely low temperature, not practical at all.

Spin devices are getting increasing attention, see for example recent emerging technologies symposium held in Vancouver last month (www.cmoset.com) and are posed to revolutionize charge based electronics we know...the key question remains when we will see these devices deployed in real world, commercial applications?
