Preparing to make the transition from a technology developer to a full-service sales and marketing organization, DataPath Systems Inc. has named All American Semiconductor Inc. as its first distributor.
Under a North American distribution pact, Miami-based All American is initially authorized to resell DataPath's ADSL analog front ends and high-resolution analog/digital converters.
DataPath, San Jose, cited the distributor's focus on value-added product lines and field-applications resources as being in line with its own application-specific direction. The San Jose company develops analog and mixed-signal devices primarily for broadband communications and storage markets.
Its high-performance technology has recently garnered the attention of leading chip suppliers, including Lucent Technology Inc.'s Microelectronics Group and NEC Electronics, both of which are codeveloping products with DataPath. NEC owns a $15 million stake in the company.
The franchise authorization bolsters All American's application-specific product offering, which is heavily weighted toward communications and multimedia markets.
