Chip Express Corp. today named Stephen McMinn president and chief executive to steer the drifting ASIC company back on course.
McMinn replaces Alex Leupp, who left the Santa Clara, Calif., company in November to head fabless graphics-chip maker 3Dfx Interactive Inc. Following Leupp's abrupt departure, Chip Express has operated under an office of the president, composed of McMinn and chief financial officer, Howard Brodsky.
Company officials hope McMinn can restore Chip Express' sense of direction. Despite a recent campaign to boost sales volume by targeting fast-growing communications segments, a high management turnover has hampered the niche custom-chip maker's effort to establish a strong identity, sources said.
Chip Express said it has not yet filled McMinn's vacated position as senior vice president of marketing and sales.
