Cypress Semiconductor Corp. today named Ralph Schmitt as its new vice president of sales and marketing reporting directly to president and chief executive T.J. Rodgers.
Schmitt replaces Cypress' long-time sales and marketing head, J. Daniel McCranie, who was tapped to lead the company's merger and acquisition activities and new business development. McCranie will be responsible for enhancing Cypress' ability to develop new products, explore new markets, and pursue acquisitions in the telecommunications and networking businesses, the San Jose company said today in a statement.
Schmitt will be charged with moving Cypress from a focus on specific products to one oriented toward end markets, as the company continues to increase its presence in the communications chip sector.
Schmitt joined Cypress in 1987 as a strategic account manager responsible for AT&T, and eventually assumed responsibility for all of Cypress' strategic accounts, including Alcatel, Cisco, Ericsson, Lucent, Motorola, Nortel Networks, and 3Com.
In addition to managing worldwide sales and marketing, Schmitt will oversee Cypress' distribution and contract manufacturing channels, along with the company's applications resources and marketing communications group.
