Advanced Micro Devices Tuesday, as anticipated, introduced its highest performance Athlon XP 3200+ desktop processor with a new faster 400MHz front side bus.
The 400MHz FSB is a step up from AMD's previous 333MHz processor bus. It also is a frequency match for new DDR400 SDRAM memory chips now ramping up in the market.
Third party chipset vendors also confirmed they have introduced or will shortly have core logic units supporting the new AMD Athlon XP 3200+ as well as the 400MHz FSB. This includes Silicon Integrated systems with its SiS748, VIA Technologies Inc. with its Apollo KT600 and Unichrome KM400a integrated graphics chipset, and Nvidia Corp. with its nForce 2 chipset.
