Transmeta Corp., Friday said it has taken an undisclosed equity stake in China 2000 Holdings Ltd. as part of an alliance to develop and market the Linux operating system for mobile and embedded devices in China and the Asia-Pacific region.
China 2000 Holdings, Hong Kong, develops Chinese language Linux operating systems for the mobile market.
The companies will cooperate on adapting Transmeta's Midori Linux OS version for the Chinese language market. Transmeta introduced Midori Linux in 2001, an OS that is optimized for low-power mobile and embedded processor systems.
The agreement also provides Transmeta with a multi-year profit sharing arrangement on the sale of Midori Linux services and support in China and Asia-Pacific.
