Avnet Design Services (ADS), a division of Avnet Inc. Electronics Marketing, has developed an evaluation kit based on the Xilinx Spartan-3 FPGA. The tool is designed to assist engineers working on embedded applications in digital convergence and other high-volume applications.
The kit is meant to speed designs to market. Engineers can use the platform in conjunction with Xilinx Intellectual Property Cores (IP Cores), embedded operating systems and other development tools, to evaluate and develop Spartan-3-based applications. Included in the kit are schematics, board layout, demonstration code, a complete bill of materials and a comprehensive board support package to further accelerate time to revenue.
Warren Miller, vice president of marketing for ADS, Phoenix, said the Spartan-3 family of high-capacity supports complex audio and video functions, while the high-speed I/Os provide a variety of interface functions required by digital convergence applications, and embedded memory and hardware multiplication support the DSP functions normally associated with high-end convergence applications.
"When augmented by the variety of available IP Cores and the many compatible daughter cards a design engineer can have a prototype up and running in days, not weeks or months," Miller said.
The evaluation kit comes with a Xilinx Spartan-3 XC3S50-PQ208 FPGA, but can be upgraded to a higher density 3S200 device if needed.
