Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands has established a joint venture with China-based Jilin Sino-Microelectronics Co. Ltd. (JSMC) to develop, design, and manufacture bipolar power products to be marketed and sold by the parent companies.
The company, to be named Philips Jilin Semiconductor Co. Ltd., will be located in Jilin City, Jilin Province, and serve both international and domestic markets. It will focus on epitaxial diodes, deflection transistors, damper diodes, triacs, and thyristors used in consumer electronics, white goods, lighting, power supplies, and industrial electronics.
Philips, a leading global power semiconductor supplier, expects the alliance to strengthen its penetration into the China market. JSMC is considered one of the largest power semiconductor suppliers in China.
Both companies expect the joint venture to begin operating mid-2004.
