SAN JOSE --Edward C. Ross has joined Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. as president of TSMC North America, it was reported here today.
Ross fills the position vacated by Magnus Ryde last fall (see Nov. 24, 1999 story ). He served as senior vice president of the Professional Services Group of Synopsys Inc. of Mountain View, Calif., where he was responsible for developing and executing Synopsys' consulting business practices. He reports directly to Ron Norris, senior vice president of marketing and sales for TSMC.

Ross also has been president of the Technology and Manufacturing Group of Cirrus Logic Inc., where he managed all manufacturing activities, including joint venture and foundry fabs; and related engineering functions. He also held the position of president and CEO of Power Integrations Inc., as well as various executive positions at Signetics Corp. and National Semiconductor Corp. He started his technology career as a member of the technical staff at the RCA David Sarnoff Research Labs.
