SALT LAKE CITY -- Daw Technologies Inc. here announced it has been awarded a cleanroom contract in North America for construction and upgrades of a Class 10 manufacturing facility.
The contract, valued at about $3.4 million, is scheduled to begin immediately and be completed in the first quarter of 2000.
Daw has been providing design/build cleanroom services to the customer, which it did not name, for 10 years. The work consists of supplying and installing cleanroom partition systems, filtered ceiling systems, fan filter units, and raised access floor systems.
Brent Lundevall, president of Daw's North American Construction Division, said, the company got the contract largely because it had decided to start sourcing cleanroom component systems rather than manufacture its own (see Sept. 14 story). "Given the opportunity to use multiple suppliers, Daw will be more competitive in securing new contracts," he said.
Lundevall added that the outlook for new fab projects looked reasonably bright. "We remain optimistic that the industry upturn in both worldwide chip sales and capital spending will result in new and significant construction of additional manufacturing facilities," he said "We continue to gain business in new and emerging markets, although many segments of traditionally strong cleanroom construction have lain idle for a long time."
