FREMONT, Calif.--Electronic design automation supplier Avant! Corp. here today announced a three-year agreement with Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Pte. Ltd. of Singapore, which will use the company's Milkway-based integrated EDA tools for ICs made with 0.35-micron and below processes.
The Singapore silicon foundry company expects to use Avant!'s SinglePass design tools to facilitate IC development with reusable intellectual-property (IP) cores. The agreement expands an existing business relationship between Chartered and Avant!.
"As the industry continues to transition to smaller process geometries, the ability to place systems on silicon becomes a critical design challenge," said Ana Hunter, Chartered vice president of worldwide EDA services. The Avant! tool set will support Chartered's push into foundry services for "system-on-silicon designs and the integration of intellectual property cores like the MIPS32 4K RISC processor core family," Hunter added.
