The Pentek Model 6821 is a single-channel, 6U VMEbus board with 12-bit analog-to-digital (A/D) converters that sample at rates of 210MHz. Designed for high-performance DSP tasks such as radar and high-frequency data acquisition, the 6821 sports two of Xilinx's new Virtex-II Pro FPGAs connected directly to the Analog Devices AD9430 A/D converters. According to Pentek, this connection enables the board to digitize a 100MHz bandwidth signal and process it in real time.
The 6821 accepts one front-panel analog input and outputs digital samples over two or four front panel data port (FPDP or FPDP II) connectors. A front panel low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) bus supports synchronous, triggered data acquisition across multiple boards. Each FPGA is designated two of the four FPDPs for output and, according to Pentek, each FPDP supports data transfer rates of 320MB per second. The FPGAs--the XC2VP20 or XC2VP50--have 6 million system gates, up to 232 hardware multipliers, and can be equipped with 128MB SDRAM. Two 16MB flash memories support boot operations for optional use of the embedded FPGA microcontrollers.
The 6821 offers multiboard synchronization and 128MB local memory for digital delay applications. The A/D converter sample clock can be sourced from an internal crystal oscillator or from an externally supplied sinusoidal clock at a maximum frequency of 210MHz. This clock is accepted through a front panel SMA connector terminated in 50 ohms.
The board is compatible with GateFlow IP cores and custom FPGA design tools.
The 6821 is now available with 12 weeks ARO and starts at $7,595.
