ZiLOG, Inc., a long-time provider of integrated 8-bit microcontrollers, has announced the release of an in-circuit emulator (ICE) kit, a development tool that emulates the Z8 Encore! 64K series of high performance 8-bit microcontrollers (MCUs). The ICE kit enables software elements to be run and tested on the actual hardware for which they are designed.
The Z8 Encore! 64K ICE kit features a trace and event system that enables developers to capture trace data before and after an event. By setting an event to stop program execution at the point where the program is not performing properly, designers can identify and isolate any development bugs and trace back the events that led up to the error, according to the company. Code can then be changed in the ICE environment and the system retested. In addition, external triggers can be used to set events. A trigger-out feature allows external devices to be activated based on programmed events.
The Z8 Encore! 64K ICE kit product is available for customer purchase via normal distribution channels and retails at $2,995. The kit includes the Z8 Encore! 64K In-Circuit Emulator, target pod, one package adapter of customer's choice, ZDS II IDE, power supply, and cables. Additional package type adapters are available for $299.00 each.
