In a major revision of its modular Java tool suite, Enerjy Software in the new Edition 7 have included enhancements that simplify and speed up Java coding, debugging, profiling and migration to the latest version 5 of the language.
Michael Hamilton, Senior Software Engineer for Enerjy Software, said the enhancements extend across all four tools in the suite including the Code Analyzer, Memory Profiler, Performance Profiler and Thread Profiler -- for Rational Application Developer (RAD) for WebSphere by IBM Version 6.0.
"We particularly focused on areas that affect most developers every day; unit testing, code maturity and encapsulation are only a few of those areas," he said.
Overall, over fifty new rules were added to assist migration from Java 1.4 and to validate proper use of new language constructs. In addition, the code analyzer, said Hamilton, detects mismatched Iterators and unchanged loop control variables. The tools are also much more able to monitor code maturity and flag direct console output and default exception handlers.
Bug detection has been enhanced to cover Junit test cases and Java serialization. In addition, he said, there are new 'Quickfix' options for every rule such as a disable rule that allows a programmer to quickly reconfigure the code analyzer as well as an escape instance of rule that allows the programmer to suppress a single rule firing for special cases.
There is also an all-encompassing escape all instances of a rule in a file, which gives the programmer the ability to suppress a rule from firing for a specific file. Individual tools are priced at $495 and include one year of maintenance.
