MUNICH, Germany Electronics distributor Avnet, Inc. plans to acquire German specialty distributor Betronik GmbH. Betronik focuses on passive components. For the takeover, Avnet needs the approval from the German antitrust authority.
Avnet plans to merge Betronik and it's French subsidiary DEL S.A. with the respective Avnet organizations in France and Germany. The newly created enterprise will be integrated into Avnet Time.
In 2006, Betronik booked revenues of 32.5 million (about $45.5 million). The founders and general managers of the company, Ingeborg and Horst Mergener, will lead the Avnet Time sales organization in Germany and Switzerland; they will report directly to Avnet Time president Michael Danylow.
Betronik, based in Berlin, has been launched in 1986. Including its logistics center in Berlin, the company employs about 80 persons. It runs seven sales offices in Germany and one in France.
Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA president Patrick Zammit said the acquisition is consistent with Avnet's strategy aiming at long-term presence in the European market. Two months ago, Avnet had taken over British IP&E distributor Flint in a related move. "Betronik's costumer and Avnet Time's customers alike will have access to more products and a broader range of services," he promised.
