SAN FRANCISCOPromising scalability and support for parallel processing across the design flow, Cadence Design Systems Inc. Wednesday (Dec. 3) rolled out a RTL-to-GDSII configurable digital implementation platform geared toward the 45- and 32-nm nodes.
According to Cadence (San Jose, Calif.), the Encounter Digital Implementation System introduces several new and enhanced implementation and design closure technologies. The product also offers automated floorplan synthesis, design exploration and a robust ranking solution to help designers evaluate and choose between floorplan and design options, according to the company.
The Encounter Digital Implementation System incorporates "signoff-quality" variation analysis and optimization across the entire design flow and integrated global diagnostic tools for timing, clock and power consumption analysis and debug, Cadence said.
Dave Desharnais, group director of the Cadence digital implementation group, stressed the global clock debug capability, calling it the product's "killer app." He said the intuitive, easy-to-use capability performs instance-and-path-finding analysis and identifies exactly what areas of a design are preventing it from reaching timing specifications. He also highlighted the product's signoff-quality analysis capabilities, first introduced with the first announced in the Encounter Timing System two years ago.
The Encounter Digital Implementation System incorporates manufacturing-aware and variation-aware implementation and an end-to-end multi-core infrastructure for fast, predictable design closure, according to Cadence. Other novel features of the product include technologies for silicon virtual prototyping, die-size exploration and RTL and physical synthesis, Cadence said.
Albert Chen, a field applications and marketing manager for Faraday Technology Corp., said he has been working with the Encounter Digital Implementation System for about a year-and-a-half and is pleased with it.
"Like all upgrades there have been a few hiccups," Chen said. "But the support for CPS [Cadence's Common Power Format] and low-power design methodology have been a big plus."
Cadence said the Encounter Digital Implementation System is available now. Pricing information was not disclosed.
