What is the best way of measuring temperature inside freezer container? Can I use IR.

The device I have is very inaccurate unless it is at room temperature :-( . How about using the peak amplitude of the Wien displacement spectrum to determine the temperature rather than the rather crude method of incident energy? That would be very accurate assuming black body radiation.

As long as the target fills the field of view of the sensor there is no effect from distance, until really long ranges where the atmosphere absorbs the IR. SherpaDoug

This is a great method as it is non-intrusive. However does distance from object play an important role? How can we calibrate with distance factor?
