NUREMBERG, Germany – Atmel Corp. has announced it has added to the number of tools and software partners supporting its recently launched family of Cortex-A5 based embedded processors.
Partner companies include ARM, Timesys, Express Logic and IAR, Atmel said at the Embedded World exhibition, held here.
The 65-nm SAMA5D3 series is designed for embedded applications in the industrial space, including factory and building automation, smart grid, medical and handheld terminals, at the same time as consumer applications such as smart watches, outdoor GPS and DECT cordless phones.
The expanded list of tools and software partners enable embedded design engineers using the SAMA5D3 series of ARM Cortex-A5 processor-based embedded processors the ability to design on a variety of systems including embedded Linux, Android and other real-time operating systems.
Tools that now support the SAMA5D3 include: the Qt tool for user interface implementation from Timesys powered by embedded Linux; the ARM DS-5 toolchain for Linux developers; while IAR and Express Logic offer tightly integrated solutions that assist designers in developing applications that deliver TCP/IP, USB, and OS functionality, along with real-time performance.
"The recently launched SAMA5D3 ARM Cortex-A5 series is our highest performing processor series in our comprehensive portfolio of microcontrollers," said Jacko Wilbrink, senior director of ARM-based MPUs at Atmel, in a statement.
"With over 1.3 million activations per day Android is an extremely popular software platform, and it has become an OS of choice for Cortex-A5 processor based products. ARM has put a strong Android software and tools ecosystem in place to support embedded designers using our ARMv7 architecture," said Javier Orensanz, director of product management at the system design division of ARM, in the same statement.
