There looks to be more BOM cost given to PSU functions than anything else, after the CPU. Of course the PSU earns its keep by getting max battery life from this CPU/display/memory but switchers are also a source of EMI, control of which adds more components. I look forward to wide-range 200MHz converters with built-in L and C, sold in such huge qties that the cost is negligible, like the old 78xx series.
