SANTA CLARA, Calif. Vishay Siliconix has introduced its Si9165BQ, a dc/dc converter that also includes n- and p-channel power MOSFETs in a surface-mount TSSOP-20 measuring 32 mm x 19 mm. The company said that the part is the smallest available at its performance level. It's priced at $2.30 in 100,000-unit quantities. The Si9166BQ-the same device less the MOSFETs-is priced at $1.50.
The Si9165BQ provides power to signal-processing circuitry and power amplifiers in phones and other systems that are powered by single-cell, lithium-ion batteries. It can deliver up to 600 mA of output current at 3.3 V. Vishay suggested that its Si9166BQ is a better alternative for end items powered by NiCd or NiMH batteries.
Vishay said the new part is the first of its kind to operate at frequencies up to 2 MHz, which reduces output capacitance and lets designers use smaller magnetics.
It has an input range of 2.7 V to 6 V and can be programmed to function either as a synchronous buck or a boost converter.
