SAN DIEGO The V044ME01 voltage-controlled oscillator from Z-Communications Inc. is said to provide ultra-low noise performance while preserving battery life in portable-radio applications.
Single-sideband performance is typically -118 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz from the carrier, while drawing 8 mA (typical) operating from a 5-Vdc supply. A frequency range of 42 to 46 MHz within 0.5- to 4.5-Vdc tuning range allows quick integration into PLLs where the error voltage can be taken directly from the IC's charge-pump circuitry.
Z-Com cited the oscillator's 1.1:1 linearity over frequency and temperature and said the device suppresses harmonics to better than -13 dBc, with an average tuning gain only of 3 MHz/V. Output power is -1 plus/minus 2 dBm into a 50-ohms load over a temperature range of -30 degrees C to +85 degrees C.
The device comes in a surface-mount package measuring 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.22 inch. It is priced at about $16 in 1,000-piece quantities. Delivery is stock to six weeks.
