MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. TelCom Semiconductor Inc. has introduced a family of low-dropout regulator controllers with an external pnp pass transistor for the lowest-possible dropout operation.
Aided by this high-beta pass transistor, the TC57 forms an LDO regulator that can deliver over 1 A of output current with a dropout voltage of under 200 mV. Supply current is 50 microamps and power consumption is less than 1 microamps in shutdown. The TC57 comes in preprogrammed output settings from 2 to 6 V in 0.1-V increments.
Packaged in an SOT-23-5 and priced from $1.13, controllers in the TC57 family are intended for battery-operated equipment where low installed cost is critical and board space is tight.
