IRVINE, Calif. Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. says its TC7MB family of bus-switch ICs in a tiny, 20-pin package is among the smallest and thinnest lines available. They are intended for personal digital assistants, portable PCs, PC servers and networking products.
Toshiba said its Ultra Small 20 package measures 3 x 5 x 1 mm, against 4.4 x 5 x 1.2 mm for the smallest package previously available. The TC7MB family will include versions with and without a diode.
The ICs feature a pin pitch of 0.5 mm, propagation delay of up to 250 picoseconds operating at 4.5 V and 5-ohm resistance (typical) with the switch on. Versions with a built-in diode will be able to transform 5-V operation to 3 V.
Engineering samples of the versions without a diode will be available May 1, with commercial samples scheduled for June. Engineering samples of the IC with a built-in diode will be offered June 1, with commercial samples slated for July. All samples cost $1. Volume production is slated to begin in the third quarter.
