SUNNYVALE, CALIF. Oki Semiconductor said that its ML53303 SAR622 is the first single-chip 622-Mbit/second segmentation-and-reassembly unit with a 64-bit data/ FIFO bus that supports the Utopia multi-PHY interface. The SAR622 is intended for use in converged networks that transmit digital and analog data streams. It converts data streams from voice, video and data to ATM cells for quality-of-service transport over Sonet. Target applications include multiservice edge switches, access switches and multiservice WAN switches.
"ATM technology has moved from the LAN backbone to edge and carrier applications because of carriers' desire to use one pipe to send all communications," said Fred Kamp, director of network product marketing.
The SAR622 is priced at $164 in 1,000-piece quantities. Production deliveries are planned for April.
