IRVINE, CALIF. D-Link has unveiled what it claims is the first combination device that operates as a Universal Serial Bus hub and a 10/100-Mbit/ second Ethernet adapter in one easy-to-use plug-and-play product.
The DSB-H3ETX employs a standard RJ-45 connector to plug into an Ethernet or fast Ethernet network hub or switch. It also has one upstream USB port plus three downstream USB ports, supporting both 1.5-Mbit/s and 12-Mbit/s USB devices.
"This USB/Ethernet adapter marks the first time users can gain access to the Ethernet network without tearing open their PCs," said Steven Joe, executive vice president of D-Link. "It will allow more people to hook up to a network and participate in the advantages of networking their computers to share data, files, printers and high-speed game play."
Joe said D-Link guarantees that the DSB-H3ETX will operate "in a multivendor Ethernet-compliant environment or with any USB device that adheres to the USB specification." That means users can connect to any standard Ethernet network or USB device "and be guaranteed that it will work," he said.
This combination USB/Ethernet peripheral carries
a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $89. The estimated street price is $75. The DSB-H3ETX is available immediately.
