SCHAUMBURG, ILL. Taiyo Yuden (USA) Inc. says its HK Series high-Q-value multilayer chip inductors reduce electromagnetic interference and increase battery life in cell phones, pagers, notebook PCs and other products using high-frequency circuits.
The small, surface-mountable inductors boast typical Q values ranging from 25 at 100 MHz to 90 at 1 GHz. Q, or quality factor, describes the degree of efficiency with which an inductor stores energy as a magnetic field. The higher the Q value, the more effectively the inductor operates as a filter. Q is typically expressed as a numerical value in conjunction with a specific frequency.
The HK Series features 100 percent silver internal conductors, advanced dielectric ceramics and unique fabrication techniques in small case sizes. For example, the 0402 case size inductor offers dc resistance values typically from 0.04 to 1.1 ohms.
Offered in current ratings up to 300 mA, HK Series inductors are available from 1 to 120 nanohenries (0402 case size), 1 to 220 nH (0603 case size) and 1.5 to 470 nH (0805 case size). Inductors are available on tape and reel for high-speed manufacturing. Pricing is 3 to 8 cents per piece, depending on the part, in OEM quantities.
