Raleigh, N.C. Combining high-current-handling capabilities with low dc resistance, power inductors from Newport Components Inc. can be supplied with an integral ferrite shield for applications where electromagnetic interference is a critical factor.
The compact SMT 2400 and 2600 series of bobbin-wound inductors can be used as storage chokes in dc/dc converter designs, and are compatible with industry-leading chip sets. Newport said it achieved high current and small size by means of an open format that improves heat dissipation. Inductance values range from 10 to 680 microhenries, and continuous dc current ratings go up to 2.65 amps; dc resistance values are 0.05 ohm.
Available in tape-and reel format, the new inductors are compatible with high-volume automated manufacturing systems. Unit pricing for the 2400 and 2600 series is 56 cents in OEM quantities.
