Newbury Park, Calif. The latest member of Semtech Corp.'s SMF line of transient-voltage suppression (TVS) devices protects sensitive electronics from damage or latch-up due to electrostatic discharge and other voltage-induced transient events. The SMF05C TVS offers low-clamping voltage (9.8 V maximum at 5 A) in a small footprint, the company said.
The SMF05C protects five I/O or data lines at a working voltage of 5 V. The device is housed in a 2.2 x 2.4-mm SC-70 package that requires less than 5.5 mm2 of board space, making it suitable for use in portable electronics. The IC is unidirectional and may be used on lines where the signal polarities are above ground.
The device features advanced silicon-avalanche technology for maximum transient protection. Other features include subnanosecond response time and low leakage current (5 microamps maximum). The device meets all IEC specs for ESD and electrical fast transient, in a package that is 43 percent smaller than comparable devices in SOT-23, the company said.
The SMF05C is sampling now, with production units slated by the end of the month. Pricing is 29 cents each in 5,000-unit quantities.
