Newbury Park, Calif. Semtech's USAR operation has a single-chip device said to interface four- or eight-wire resistive touch screens to Universal Serial Bus (USB) systems regardless of screen size, material or vendor.
Applications include interactive kiosks, portable devices and industrial systems.
The ScreenCoder USB touch-screen controller IC integrates a digitizer with a controller that handles touch detection, noise filtering and error elimination. It is said to provide a host with processed, stable positioning data over USB.
Resolution is 1,000 points per axis, which according to the company is suitable for precise drawing and signature capture.
Proprietary motion algorithms provide immunity from RF and other noise sources for more precise cursor control and less jitter. The ScreenCoder USB is priced at less than $6.50 in quantities of 100,000.
Evaluation kits including a board, touch screen, cables and documentation, are available for $200.
