GREENSBORO, N.C. - RF Micro Devices Inc. has designed its RF2506 low-power BiCMOS voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) for use in license-free ISM-band applications, cordless phones and emerging broadband radio systems.
This eight-pin IC is designed to replace VCO modules or discrete designs. It operates from a 2.7- to 3.6-V supply and provides a reference frequency from 10 MHz to 1 GHz. The device has a -110-dBc (100-kHz) phase noise. A digitally controlled power-down pin reduces current to less than 1 microamp in standby mode. Packaged in an SOP-8, it is priced at 76 cents in quantities of 10,000.
