DAVIS, CALIF. - The LogicFlex is the latest in JK microsystems' line of embedded DOS controllers with TCP/IP and Ethernet. The board addresses the demand for a compact, expandable SBC with flexible I/O and Ethernet.
Preinstalled DOS, Ethernet packet driver and over 40 digital I/O lines makes the controller a platform for monitoring and control applications requiring TCP/IP connectivity, according to the company.
The unit is powered by a 25-MHz Intel 386Ex processor with 512 kbytes of SRAM and 512 kbytes of flash memory. The board is equipped with two PC-compatible RS-232 serial ports. One of the ports is software-configurable as RS-485.
The controller also features 46 digital I/O lines, a hardware clock/calendar and processor expansion bus. Ethernet connectivity is supported by an NE2000-compatible controller with 16 kbytes of on-chip buffer memory and 10 Base T media interface. The unit is compatible with the M-Systems DiskOnChip product, offering nonvolatile mass storage options from 2 to 144 Mbytes.
The majority of the I/O is provided through a Xilinx complex PLD. In its standard configuration, the CPLD is programmed as a simple port I/O unit. In-circuit programmability allows a user to implement custom logic designs to more closely match a given application. A complete set of Web-based design tools is available free from Xilinx.
Source code for a Web server is included in the development kit. Pricing for the LogicFlex is $229 in lots of 100. The LogicFlex Development Kit is $449. The products will be available in early December.
