Milpitas, Calif. - Xicor Inc. has introduced four 1,024-tap, digitally controlled, single potentiometers with 10-bit resolution.
The X9110, X9118, X9111 and X9119 are based on E2PROM technology for nonvolatility, thus they retain their last setting in the event of power loss and can be re-programmed while they are running.
The parts can replace high-precision, multiturn mechanical potentiometers in applications requiring especially accurate adjustments or calibration.
Earlier this fall, Analog Devices began sampling two 256-position digital pots, the AD5241 and AD5242, which were also positioned against high-end mechanical alternatives (See Oct. 2, page 210).
Xicor's X9110 and X9118 are dual-supply parts that support I2C and SPI interfaces, respectively, and are aimed at plus or minus bipolar applications. The X9111 and X9119 are single-supply parts for plus-only unipolar signal levels. They also support I2C and SPI interfaces, respectively.
All four parts operate from supply voltages that range from 2.7 to 5.5 volts. Xicor is currently sampling versions in 14-pin thin shrunk small-outline packages with 100-kilowatt end-to-end resistance.
The parts are priced at $2.97 in 1,000-piece quantities. Production shipments are planned for February. The digital pots will also be offered in die-size Xicor ball-grid-array packages.
