San Jose, Calif. - Fifteen high-throughput, low-latency host bus adapters (HBAs) from SBS Technologies Inc. offer a wide range of media support and port configuration options, including peer-to-peer connectivity and dual media for design flexibility. The latest addition to a family of 1-Gbit/second, 64-bit, 66-MHz PCI, CompactPCI and PMC Fibre Channel interface boards are used as high-speed communications interfaces for servers, workstations and embedded computers in real-time networking and storage-area network (SAN) applications.
The Fibre Channel interfaces include three HBAs with one copper HSSCD port and one multimode fiber-optic port apiece; six HBAs with a single fiber-optic or copper HSSDC port; and six HBAs with single-mode, fiber-optic transceivers.
The three copper/fiber dual-ported HBAs have two ports connected to the QLogic ISP2200A PCI-to-Fibre Channel chip set through an integrated three-port hub. This port combination allows cable media to be mixed on a single HBA.
The six single-port HBAs with either a copper HSSDC port or a multimode fiber-optic port support both remote-DMA and SCSI target drivers for peer-to-peer communications, the company said.
The six boards with single-mode fiber-optic transceivers include an extended-depth receive buffer of 128 kbytes and can transmit data up to 10 kilometers. Single- and dual-ported models will be available.
All boards include software drivers for Solaris, Linux, Windows NT, VxWorks and LynxOS. Prices start at $985 for the PCI version with a single copper port.
