Torrance, Calif. - LEDtronics' 0805-profile miniature SurfLEDs measure 2 x 1.25 mm and come in a range of colors. The light-emitting diodes are available on EIA-standard 8-mm tape, 7-foot reels and feature a viewing angle of 140 degrees .
The surface-mount LEDs are offered in two intensities: high efficiency and super bright. Depending on the color, the high-efficiency SurfLEDs offer typical luminous intensities from 2 millicandelas to 20 mcd at 20 milliamps, and the super-bright models offer typical luminous intensities from 25 mcd to 60 mcd at 20 mA.
Using the SurfLEDs with LEDtronics' OptiLED light pipes simplifies the spatial relationship between the printed-circuit board and remote indicator illumination points by channeling all of the LED-generated light to the exact location at which the light is required, according to the manufacturer.
The LEDs are said to be compatible with infrared and convective reflow-soldering processes as well as pick-and-place automated equipment. The company claims the parts can cut the cost of pc board assembly without compromising product integrity. Applications for the devices include backlighting computer panels, handheld instruments, and status indicators for both data communications and telecommunications.
The high-efficiency SurfLEDs are available in super red (660 nanometers, 20 mcd), high-efficiency red (635 nm, 12 mcd), amber (610 nm, 15 mcd) yellow (585 nm, 10 mcd), high-efficiency green (568 nm, 18 mcd), green (568 nm, 15 mcd) and pure green (555 nm, 2 mcd).
Available hues for the super-bright models are super red (660 nm, 25 mcd), ultra red (660 nm, 40 mcd), super orange (620 nm, 20 mcd), soft orange (610 nm, 50 mcd), super yellow (595 nm, 60 mcd/587 nm, 60 mcd), aqua green (523 nm, 60 mcd) and blue (470 nm, 40 mcd).
Pricing for the 0805-profile miniature SurfLEDs ranges from 14 cents to $1.44 each in 500-piece quantities.
