Pittsburgh - A highly integrated 6U CompactPCI CPU based on Intel's Mobile Pentium III processor and targeted at the expanded performance and memory needs of the embedded marketplace is now available from PEP Modular Components Inc.
The compact 4HP CP604 uses the Mobile Pentium III in BGA2 packaging, with scalable performance from 400 to 700 MHz and a 256-kbyte or advanced-transfer cache. It can be configured with Intel's 440BX or 440GX chip sets for soldered SDRAM capacity up to 512 Mbytes or 1 Gbyte, respectively. An extension socket offers up to 1 Gbyte of additional memory.
Dual Fast Ethernet channels based on Intel's 82559 on-board Intelligent Platform Management Interface are offered, along with high-resolution VGA, 4 Mbytes of on-board flash, a flash-disk socket for up to 288 Mbytes of DiskOnChip, dual ATA33 interfaces, four ESD-protected serial channels, and USB and rear-I/O support via J3, J4 and J5. The unit comes with a rear-I/O transition module.
The CPU is available as either a system master or peripheral master, with optional support for extended temperature ranges. It supports VxWorks, QNX, Linux, Windows 2000 and Windows NT Embedded operating systems. Prices start at $2,500.
