Eugene, Ore. - VersaLogic Corp. has equipped its VSBC-8 EBX-compliant single-board computer with a fast CPU, suiting it for applications in medical, military and semiconductor-manufacturing equipment, or other embedded applications requiring high reliability and low downtime.
The VSBC-8 accepts the newest Socket 370 processors, including the Celeron and 850-MHz Pentium III with 100-MHz front-side bus and 256-kbyte Level 2 cache. "For the EBX embedded footprint, there isn't a faster CPU option out there," said Tom Barnum, vice president of sales and marketing for VersaLogic.
In the targeted markets, he said, "we're getting more calls for faster, more powerful processors that can handle more I/O. People are always looking for ways to handle new applications, whether it's sound, a new GUI or just more I/O."
The VSBC-8 incorporates a DiskOnChip site, PC/104-Plus expansion, AGP video, flat-panel support, 10/100 Base T Ethernet, sound support, 100-MHz front-side bus and up to 256 Mbytes of SDRAM. It also includes such on-board industrial features as an analog input option, Opto 22-compatible digital I/O port, four COM ports and three extra timer/counters.
For higher reliability, the company said the SBC also uses longer-life batteries, latching I/O connectors and spread-spectrum clock-generation technology, which reduces electromagnetic-interference problems.
VSBC-8b models with low-power, fanless 400-MHz Pentium III CPUs start at $1,025 in low quantities.
