Myrtle Beach, S.C. - AVX Corp. is offering chip film capacitors in 1206 and 1210 case sizes based on a new polyphenyl sulphide (PPS) dielectric for low-voltage applications.
Designated the PPS CF Series, the capacitors are compatible with both flow and reflow soldering techniques and offer low ESR and ESL values, the company said. Units in 1812 case size are being developed. These devices have capacitance values from 1 nF to 100 nF with tolerances to plus/minus 2 percent. Rated voltage ranges from 16 Vdc to 50 Vdc, with operating temperatures ranging from -55 degrees C to 125 degrees C.
"AVX's PPS CF Series capacitors feature extremely low dissipation and have no piezoelectric effect," said Vaughn Viles, AVX product manager. "The intrinsic elasticity of the dielectric film used makes these devices compatible with all types of materials for printed-circuit boards," he said.
Applications include auto navigation systems, industrial lighting and power supplies plus telecom gear, such as GSM PLL circuits and ADSL systems, the company said.
The PPS CF Series capacitors sell for about 10 cents each in OEM quantities with lead times of stock to approximately 12 weeks.
