Sunnyvale, Calif. - Second-generation 1.3-megapixel (1,280 x 1,024) camera chips are available from OmniVision Technologies Inc. for high-volume, low-cost still and video imaging applications such as dual-mode digital cameras, surveillance, biometric and videoconferencing products.
The color OV9620 and black-and-white OV9120 are smaller, lower-cost versions of megapixel chips the company introduced earlier this year. Each is priced at $12.50 in quantities of 100,000 or more.
The chips compete against multichip charge-coupled device chip sets, but are smaller-48 pins compared with 64 pins-and less expensive, said John Lynch, vice president of sales and marketing.
