Sunnyvale, Calif. - Marvell has built a generation of controllers for systems based on MIPS or PowerPC processors. The Discovery II line includes three devices for 64-bit MIPS-based processors (MV64340, MV64341 and MV64342) and three for PowerPC-based subsystems (MV64360, MV64361 and MV64362).
Apps range from from sophisticated core routers, wireless basestations and switches to high-volume embedded applications like storage networking and imaging systems. With dual PCI-X and multiple Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, the controllers are said to enable Fibre Channel, iSCSI and Serial ATA storage apps.
All the devices also have I2C and interrupt controllers.
The six Discovery II system controllers incorporate a 100-Gbit/s crossbar switch with any-to-any connectivity and support nonblocking concurrent transactions among peripherals at full bus speeds. Each is packaged in a 724-ball PBGA, and priced from $49 to $99 in high volume quantities.
