Milpitas, Calif. - Intersil Corp.'s EL7513 high-frequency PWM step-up regulator is said to be capable of driving 12 LEDs while ensuring uniform brightness in white-LED backlighting applications.
This first device in a new line, the regulator is designed to be used with white-LED displays. Intersil said the part offers the precision, accuracy and efficiency needed for cell phones, personal digital assistants, digital cameras and other battery-powered electronics.
The pulse-width modulation step-up converter is specially designed to boost maximum output voltage to drive four LEDs in series or 12 LEDs in a series/parallel configuration, ensuring uniform brightness across white-LED backlit screens.
With the ability to boost up to 18 volts, the regulator features soft-start and dimming control, offers plus/minus 4 percent LED diode current accuracy and can achieve up to 89 percent efficiency when driving a 30-milliamp load. The device operates from 2.6 to 5.5 V and features a standby mode of 1 mA maximum.
The part is now available in sample quantities in an eight-pin TSOT package. Volume production is set for the first quarter. Each IC is priced at $1.09 in lots of 10,000.
