Santa Clara, Calif. - Two low-dropout regulators from Vishay Siliconix come in a 3 x 3-mm PowerPAK MLP33 for battery-powered equipment like cell phones, wireless handsets and modems, PDAs, notebooks, pagers and digital cameras. Rated for power dissipation of 1.2 W, the Si91871 and Si91872 LDOs have a drop out of 250 millivolts at 300 milliamps. They are designed to maintain regulation while delivering 400-mA peak output current in apps with high surge currents at turn-on.
The Si91871 is especially suited for sensitive RF receiver or audio amplifier environments, Vishay said, and with an external-bypass capacitor it reduces output noise to 30 microvolts (rms). The Si91872 provides an out-of-regulation error flag. Each may be used with low-ESR ceramic capacitors or tantalum capacitors.
The devices, available in 14 fixed-output voltages from 1.2 to 5 V, offer 1.5 percent guaranteed output-voltage accuracy, a startup time of 60 microseconds and transient response of 30 microseconds.
Samples and production quantities are available now for most voltage options, with lead times of eight to 10 weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery is 28 cents each in 100,000-piece quantities.
