Milpitas, Calif. - Sipex Corp.'s synchronous 400-milliamp buck regulator is housed in a tiny dual-fine-pitch no-lead package. By occupying only 3 x 3 mm of board space, the DFN package is said to reduce layout area by 40 percent.
The device has a 0.8-volt internal reference that allows low output voltages and is stable with ceramic capacitors, achieving low output voltage ripple. This buck regulator targets PDAs, MP3 players, cell phones and other portables.
The SP6655's internal synchronous 0.3-ohm switches allow efficiency across the load range, Sipex said. The architecture allows full duty cycle operation, critical in extending operating life when the battery is near minimum voltage.
This device operates from inputs of 2.7 to 5.5 V, ideal for single-cell lithium-ion applications. It typically consumes 20 microamps of quiescent current and 10 nA in shutdown mode.
The SP6655 is available now, priced at $1.29 in 1,000-piece quantities. An evaluation board is also available.
