Milpitas, Calif. - Two single-rail power distribution hot-swap controllers from Intersil Corp. work on 3.3-volt (ISL6117) and 2.5-V (ISL6120) rails, respectively. Designed to allow server motherboards to be safely inserted and removed from live backplanes, the Endura chips complement the company's 12-V ISL6115 and 5-V ISL6116 products.
The new chips offer undervoltage monitoring and power-good notification, programmable overcurrent detection and fault isolation, programmable current regulation and programmable current-limit time to latch off. Turn-on ramp can be adjusted for soft start. Although designed primarily for high-side switch control, both ICs can also be used in a low-side configuration for control of much higher voltage potentials, such as -48 V. The ISL6117 and ISL6120 are available now in eight-lead SOIC packages specified for the 0 degrees C to 85 degrees C temperature range. Each is priced at $1.50 in 1,000-piece quantities.
