Nashua, N.H. - Expanding the Very High Density Metric interconnect platform, Teradyne Inc.'s Connection Systems Division, here, and Molex Inc. (Lisle, Ill.) are offering an eight-row version of the VHDM right-angle male connector. The RAM connector offers a high-density solution of 100 signals per inch, making it possible to expand a system horizontally by creating traditional backplane components in a right-angle orientation, Teradyne said.
Applications include cable I/O interfacing directly to the edge of the daughtercard, planar extender-card applications and straight I/O into the right-angle female VHDM connector. The VHDM product family, based on a modular "waferized" architecture, allows the right-angle male wafers to be combined with power and guidance wafers to attain an overall connector length of up to 304 mm. Molex is licensed to manufacture Teradyne's backplane connector families including the VHDM, VHDM-HSD and VHDM-L series.
The VHDM eight-row right-angle male connector is priced at roughly 20 to 25 cents per line in full production volumes.
