San Diego - Pulse's high-efficiency, high-frequency PA051X series of shielded inductors for multiphase voltage regulator modules (VRMs) has more than twice the energy storage density (microjoules/mm3) of any other inductor of comparable size for VRM10 apps, the company said.
The new platform is said to minimize both ac and dc losses. The PA051X series is available in two types, PA0511 and PA0512, with a total of six inductance values. The inductance range is 72 to 220 nanohenries; the operating temperature range is -40 degrees C to 130 degrees C. Direct-current resistance is no higher than 0.55 milliohm. The series has a flat-top package compatible with pick-and-place manufacturing.
The PA0512, with a footprint of 7 x 7 mm and a maximum 5-mm height, has one of the industry's smallest footprints, according to Pulse. The series helps users meet targets for size, efficiency, transient response and cost for server, workstation, desktop and portable computing applications.
The PA051X series is available packaged in in trays on tape and reel. Prices start at 30 cents per unit for quantities of 100,000, depending on the shipment destination. Lead time is four to six weeks. Volume discounts and samples are available. A data sheet is available at www.pulseeng.com/pdf/P601.pdf.
