Lisle, Ill. - Molex Inc. has introduced Mini SD card connectors and adapters, targeting mobile phones and other portable devices. The components accept the new, thumbnail-size Mini SD flash memory cards. The mini format yields about a 60 percent space savings compared with standard SD versions but packs the same security features for content protection as the standard SD card, according to Molex.
The Mini SD card connectors are available in reverse-mount versions in a variety of profile heights. Normal-mount versions will be released soon. A metal shell design offers shielding and protection, and integral metal shell tabs connect to the pc board for grounding. A dual beam contact on the power and ground pins enables strong normal force and good electrical continuity, according to the company. Features include a spring lock mechanism for card retention and a push-push eject mechanism for extraction.
Molex's Mini SD card adapters let Mini SD cards be used in both Mini SD and standard SD card slots. Each adapter includes a metal shield, write protect switch and card lock.
Pricing depends on quantity and features. An unshielded connector is priced at $3 each in quantities of 2,000. Delivery is eight to nine weeks.
